Remove an SP Internal Interconnect Assembly

This procedure can be performed only by qualified service personnel. Remove AC power using the circuit breakers on the appropriate PDU before performing this procedure.

The replacement procedures are the same whether you are replacing an SP internal interconnect assembly in the CMIOU chassis or in the switch chassis.

  1. Determine which interconnect requires service.

    See Identify Faulted Components.

  2. Take the necessary ESD precautions.

    See Prevent ESD Damage.

  3. Power off the server and switch off the appropriate PDU circuit breakers.

See Removing Power From the Server or Domain.

  4. Locate the SP internal interconnect assembly at the front of the server.

See CMIOU Chassis Front Components and Switch Chassis Front Components (SPARC M7-16).

  5. Gain access to the SP internal interconnect assembly:
    1. From the rear of the server, remove the SPs and the SP tray from the impacted chassis.

See Servicing SPs and Servicing SP Trays.

    2. Unseat all CMIOUs or switch units from the impacted chassis.

See Servicing CMIOUsor Servicing Switch Units.

    3. Remove all interconnect assemblies that are installed adjacent to the SP internal interconnect assembly you are removing.

See Servicing Internal Interconnect Assemblies (SPARC M8-8 and SPARC M7-8) or Servicing External Interconnect Assemblies (SPARC M7-16).

  6. From the front of the server, remove the SP internal interconnect assembly.
    1. Loosen the captive screws on the SP internal interconnect assembly to free it from the chassis.

    2. Use a T20 driver to remove the two screws that are located inside the square holes on the white, horizontal strip that extends to the left of the SP internal interconnect assembly.

If you are using a screwdriver that has interchangeable bits, the bit needs to be 2 inches long because the socket on the driver does not fit through the square holes.

    3. Carefully slide the SP internal interconnect assembly out of the chassis.

  7. Install the new SP internal interconnect assembly.

See Install an SP Internal Interconnect Assembly.
