Remove the Battery

Removing the battery is a hot-swap operation. You do not need to power off the switch before you remove the battery.

The battery is located inside the SMM.

No. Description 1 Battery

1. Consider your first step.
   • If you have not prepared for service, you must do so now.

     See Preparing for Service.

   • If you have completed those prerequisite tasks, go to Step 2.
2. If you have not already done so, remove the air duct assembly and SER MGT cable (if connected).

   See Remove the Air Duct Assembly.

3. Fully loosen the captive thumbscrew at the right side of the SMM.
   
4. Grasp the thumbscrew and pull the SMM straight out.
   
5. Set the SMM down on an antistatic mat.
6. With the SER MGT port facing away from you, pop the battery out of the holder to the left.
   
7. Properly dispose of the battery.
8. Install a new battery.
