Install the HBA Card

The host bus adapter (HBA) card is installed in an internal PCIe slot on the SMOD motherboard.

  1. Position the HBA card with the component side facing up and the edge connector pointed away from you.
  2. With the SMOD positioned upside down and the back (connector) side facing you, align the HBA card with the SMOD motherboard riser slot.
  3. Connect the storage drive SAS backplane cable to the HBA card connector labeled C0 [1].
  4. Align the connector on the HBA card with the PCIe slot on the SMOD motherboard riser and then push the HBA card into the slot [2].

  5. Lock the card and secure the thumbscrew.
    1. Rotate the release locking lever up [1].
    2. Carefully rotate the thumbscrew to tighten the release lever [2].

  6. Ensure that the ESM extension cable passes through the cable guide on the SMOD motherboard [1].
  7. Connect the Energy Storage Module (ESM) extension cable connector to the connector on the HBA [2].
  8. Ensure that the storage drive SAS cable passes through the cable guide on the backplane connector side of the SMOD [3].

  9. Install the four storage drives or fillers as required.

  10. Install the SMOD.

  11. Prepare the server for operation.
