Prepare an SMOD for Replacement

Caution

Caution  -  These procedures require that you handle components that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. This sensitivity can cause the components to fail. To avoid damage, ensure that you follow antistatic practices as described in Electrostatic Discharge and Static Prevention Measures.

To prepare a failed SMOD for return shipment and failure analysis:

  1. Use Oracle ILOM to identify the location of the failed SMOD.

    See Troubleshooting Server Hardware Faults.

  2. Prepare the server for cold service.

This is a cold-service component. Power down the system and disconnect the AC power cables from the server before performing this procedure.

See Preparing the Server for Component Replacement.

  3. Remove the failed SMOD.

    See Remove an SMOD.

  4. Set a replacement SMOD next to the failed SMOD on an antistatic mat.
  5. Remove the following reusable components from the SMOD and install them onto the replacement SMOD.

For more information, see SMOD Motherboard.

  6. Place the failed SMOD in a shipping package.
  7. Return the replacement SMOD to service.
