ATG Merchandising is designed for ATG Commerce users who want to use ATG Content Administration tools for building catalogs and deploying them to a live site. Using ATG Merchandising, business users can develop categories, products, and SKUs and organize them into catalogs that exist in a content management environment.

There are two main advantages of the content management environment provided by ATG Merchandising. First, the activities you perform in your catalogs are identified as tasks in a project and managed using features provided by ATG Content Administration. When you finish a merchandising task, such as editing copy for a product, you advance the project so that the person who is responsible for the next task in the workflow, such as reviewing changes, is notified that action is required. In this way, the process of managing merchandising assets is automated.

The second advantage of a content management system is that you can save multiple versions of each asset. For example, you may not know which image is best for a given product. You can create multiple images so that your manager can select her preference. And if you need to make minor modifications to an image, your changed file is saved as a new version of an existing asset. If you decide to discard your changes, you can revert to the prior version.

The following topics describe additional features of ATG Merchandising:
