Depending on what you want to test, you can create a search test in several ways. You can test the outcome of applying new or updated search configurations and facets from inside a project, or troubleshoot a deployed site that is not working as expected. You can also create a search test while editing a facet or search configuration.

To create a search test:

  1. Perform one of the following tasks:

    To

    Do this

Create a search test while working on an ATG Merchandising project.

From inside the project, choose Search Testing from the Show menu on the Browse tab.

    Click New Search Test.

Create a search test while editing a search configuration or a facet.

With the search configuration or the facet open in the Details pane, click Test Search.

Note: You can return to the search configuration by clicking its name in the Search Configuration field of the search test.

Troubleshoot searches for deployed assets without creating a project.

On the BCC Home page, click Browse next to Manage Commerce Assets and then choose Search Testing from the Show menu.

    Click New Search Test.

A new search test appears in the Details pane. The Test Environment field shows the environment where the search test is currently set to run. For information, see Search Testing Environment.

  2. To change the Test Environment, click Select and specify an environment in the dialog, as follows:

    • Select the search testing environment that contains the products and SKUs you want to test, such as Staging or Production. The options depend on the search testing environments set up by the administrator.

    • If you want to include undeployed search configurations and facets from the current project in the test, select the checkbox. This option appears only if you are working in a project.

Caution: You cannot test undeployed changes to categories, products, SKUs, or price lists. These assets must be in the search index in order to be included in the test. See Search Testing Environment.

Note: If there is only one search environment and you are not working in a project, the Test Environment Select button does not appear.

  3. Choose the search inputs you want to test. See Specifying the Search Criteria to Test.

  4. Choose the output types you want to include in the test results. See Specifying the Test Output.

  5. Click Search to run the test.
