Remove an NVMe Storage Drive

After you unmount the NVMe storage drive, the steps to physically remove the dirve are the same as the steps to remove a SAS storage dirve. For detailed instructions, see Remove a SAS Drive.

1. Unmount the storage drive depending on the OS.

   Use one of these methods:

   • Unmount an NVMe Storage Drive (Oracle Solaris)

   • Unmount an NVMe Storage Drive (Oracle Linux)

2. Identify the physical location of the NVMe drive that you want to remove.

   For storage drive locations, see Component Locations (Storage, Power, and Fan Modules).

3. Verify that the OK to Remove indicator (LED) on the NVMe storage drive is lit.
4. Push the latch release button to open the drive latch.
5. Grasp the latch, and pull the drive out of the drive slot.
6. Consider your next step:
   • If you are replacing the drive, use one of these methods to verify the removal.

     • Verify Removal of an NVMe Storage Drive (Oracle Solaris)

     • Verify Removal of an NVMe Storage Drive (Oracle Linux)

   • If you are not replacing the drive, install a filler panel in the empty drive slot to maintain proper airflow, and perform administrative tasks to configure the server to operate without the drive.
