Install the USB Flash Drive

Installing the USB flash drive is a cold-service operation. You must power off the server before installing the USB flash drive.

  1. Consider your first step.
    • If you are replacing the USB flash drive, remove the faulty or obsolete USB flash drive first, then return to this procedure, Step 2. See Remove the USB Flash Drive.

    • If you are installing the USB flash drive as part of another component's removal or installation procedure, go to Step 2.

    • If you are installing a new USB flash drive, go to Step 2.

  2. Position the USB flash drive to where it installs onto the motherboard.

    The USB flash drive installs into the USB socket that is near the middle of the motherboard. The socket is labeled USB 0. See Component Locations (Motherboard, Memory, and PCIe Cards).

  3. Gently insert the USB flash drive into the USB socket.

  4. Consider your next step.
    • If you installed the USB flash drive as part of a replacement operation, go to Step 5.

    • If you installed the USB flash drive as part of another component's removal or installation procedure, return to that procedure. See Component Service Task Reference for assistance.

    • If you installed a new USB flash drive, go to Step 5.

  5. Finish the installation procedure.
