Remove a DIMM

Removing a DIMM is a cold-service operation. You must power off the server before you remove the DIMM.

  1. Determine which DIMM to remove.

    See Locate a Faulty DIMM.

  2. Consider your next step.
    • If you have not prepared for service, do so now. See Preparing for Service.

    • If you are removing a DIMM as part of another component's removal or installation procedure, go to Step 3.

  3. Review this information and complete these prerequisites in this order.
  4. Locate the DIMM to remove.
  5. Press down and out on the release levers at both ends of the DIMM slot.

  6. Lift the DIMM up and out the slot.

  7. Set the DIMM aside.
  8. Repeat from Step 4 for any additional DIMMs to be removed.
  9. Consider your next step.
    • If you removed a DIMM as part of a replacement operation, install a new DIMM. See Install a DIMM.

    • If you removed a DIMM as part of another component's removal or installation procedure, return to that procedure. See Component Service Task Reference for assistance.

    • If you are not replacing the DIMM, install a DIMM filler in its place. See Install a DIMM.


      Caution

      Caution  -  Overheating hazard. There must be no empty DIMM slots.
