Diagnostic Tools

These tools are available to perform diagnostics:

  • Status LEDs – These LEDs indicate the condition or state of the chassis and components. See Interpreting Diagnostic LEDs.

  • Oracle ILOM /SP targets – These targets provide information about services, sessions, and configuration parameters for Oracle ILOM. See Troubleshooting (Oracle ILOM /SP Targets).

  • Oracle ILOM logs – These files provide an accounting of events that happened with the server hardware. See Display Oracle ILOM Log Entries.

  • BIOS messages – These messages might be displayed. The messages describe events occurring during the BIOS power-on self-test. See BIOS POST Event Messages.

  • Oracle ILOM/System targets – These targets provide information about the hardware of the server. See Determining Component Health.

  • Oracle ILOM show faulty command – This command displays a table of components determined to be faulty. See Display Faults (show faulty Command).

  • Oracle ILOM faultmgt shell – This shell diagnoses hardware component failures. See Display Faults (faultmgmt Shell).

  • Oracle ILOM legacy targets – These targets provide detailed component and environmental information about the server. See Troubleshooting (Oracle ILOM Legacy Targets).

  • OS boot diagnostics – Specific to the OS installed, these tools determine the interaction between the OS and the hardware components.

  • Diagnostic applications – These software programs perform tests on the hardware components.

    • UEFI Diagnostics - The UEFI diagnostics can test and detect problems on all processors, memory, disk drives, and network ports. The diagnostics are used on newer Oracle systems, such as this server.

Refer to the Oracle x86 Servers Diagnostics, Applications, and Utilities Guide for Servers with Oracle ILOM 3.1 and Oracle ILOM 3.2.x at http://www.oracle.com/goto/x86AdminDiag/docs for information.

    • Oracle VTS - The Oracle VTS software provides a comprehensive diagnostic tool that tests and validates Oracle's Sun hardware by verifying the connectivity and proper functioning of most hardware controllers and devices. Oracle VTS requires the Oracle Solaris operating system and is installed separately.

For Oracle VTS software and documentation go to http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19719-01/index.html.
