Set Watchdog Timers

The watchdog timers allow the SP to reset or power down the system if the BIOS or operating system crashes or hangs. Use this task to set the either the SP BIOS WatchDog Timer or the SP OS WatchDog Timer.

  1. Access the BIOS Setup utility menus.

    For instructions, see Access the BIOS Setup Utility Menus.

  2. From the BIOS Main menu screen, select Advanced.
  3. From the Advanced Settings screen, select IPMI Configuration.
  4. From the IPMI Configuration screen, select Set SP Watchdog Configuration.

    From this screen, you can enable or disable the SP BIOS and SP OS Watchdog timer action and set the timeout durations. The watchdog timer action options include:

    • No Action – Logs the watchdog event

    • Reset – Halt and reboot the system

    • Power Down – Gracefully power down the system

    • Power Cycle – Gracefully power down and reboot the system

    • Disabled – Watchdog timer disabled

  5. Set one or both Watchdog timers and set the timeout durations in minutes.
    • SP BIOS Watchdog timer – The SP will perform the selected timer action if the BIOS hangs or crashes during POST once it reaches the timeout duration.

    • SP OS Watchdog timer – The SP will perform the selected timer action if the Watchdog timer is not restarted by an OS application before the timer reaches its timeout duration.

  6. Press the F10 key to save the changes and exit BIOS utility.

    Alternately, you can select the Exit screen, then select Save Changes and Exit.
