Replacing DIMMs


Caution

Caution  - This procedure requires that you handle components that are sensitive to static discharge. This sensitivity can cause the component to fail. To avoid damage, ensure that you follow antistatic practices as described in Electrostatic Discharge Safety.



Caution

Caution  - Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing DIMMs, or damage to the DIMMs might occur. You must disconnect all power cables from the system before performing this procedure.


The system supports a variety of DIMM configurations that can include quad-rank DIMMs, dual-rank DIMMs, or single-rank DIMMs. When replacing or upgrading a DIMM on the server, consider the following:

Learn the rules to follow when installing DIMMs in slots.
Understand the classification rank labels on DIMMs.
Review how the system detects and logs ECC fault information.
Identify and remove the faulty DIMMs from the server.
Install replacement or new DIMMs.
