Replacing
DIMMs
| Caution - This procedure requires that
you handle components that are sensitive to static discharge. This
sensitivity can cause the component to fail. To avoid damage, ensure
that you follow antistatic practices as described in Electrostatic Discharge Safety. |
| Caution - Ensure that all power is removed
from the server before removing or installing DIMMs, or damage to
the DIMMs might occur. You must disconnect all power cables from
the system before performing this procedure. |
The system supports a variety
of DIMM configurations that can include quad-rank DIMMs, dual-rank
DIMMs, or single-rank DIMMs. When replacing or upgrading a DIMM
on the server, consider the following:
|
|
Learn the location of the DIMM slots
in relation to the CPUs. |
|
Learn the rules to follow when installing DIMMs
in slots. |
|
Understand the classification rank labels
on DIMMs. |
|
Review how the system detects and logs ECC
fault information. |
|
Identify and remove the faulty DIMMs
from the server. |
|
Install replacement or new DIMMs. |
