lock(1)

Name

lock - lock tty

Synopsis

lock

Description

Lock access to the current tty until successful re-authentiation, by the user account that owns the tty device.

The lock command uses pam( 3PAM ) for authentication and account management with the PAM service name of "lock". The PAM configuration policy, listed in either /etc/pam.conf or /etc/pam.d/lock, specifies the modules to be used for lock.

A lock screen audit record is written on startup. A success or fail unlock screen audit record is written depending on the outcome of the PAM authentication.
